Concrete

Concrete is used more than any other man-made material in the world. Boxley's concrete is frequently tested to ensure there is a perfect mix for your project on delivery. There are many types of concrete available, each defined by a mix design which is determined by the proportions of course aggregate (stone), fine aggregate (sand), cement and water in a particular mix of concrete. Our latest high-tech quality control systems seek the right balance between economy and requirements for placeability, strength, durability, density, and appearance.

Boxley delivers quality mixes on time when and where you need it. That's how Boxley helps to ensure that your commercial or residential project is built right from the get-go. With a variety of certified mixes and the technical know-how to meet your custom applications and specification needs, Boxley consistently delivers quality concrete - load after load.

Getting the perfect mix for your project means finding the right balance between economy and requirements for placeability, strength, durability, density, and appearance.

Boxley Pervious Concrete

Boxley pervious concrete, has recently been used in the largest application of pervious concrete in the Roanoke Valley.

The project is the renovation of the H.L. Lawson warehouse located in downtown Roanoke next to the Norfolk and Southern rail yard.

When completed the old warehouse will assume a new life as 22 upscale apartments. While lagging behind larger cities for this type of housing, Roanoke's downtown is now becoming increasingly popular with valley residents.

Lawson's Wall Corner

The developer is Lucas Thornton, whose great-grandfather built the building.

The concrete finisher on the project was Procon Inc., concrete specialists of Rocky Mount, VA. 170 yards of Boxley pervious concrete was used for the parking lot, eliminating the need for a storm water retention facility. When it rains, it drains. Each square foot allows 3- 8 gallons of water a minute to pass through. Water runs into the concrete (which resembles rice crispy treats), allowing it to seep into the soil and help recharge the underground water supply. It also reduces demand on sewer systems.

Pervious concrete, which is designed to last 20-40 years, is not the only environmentally friendly feature of this project. There will be a 'garden area' for its residents and available space for them to grow their own flowers and/or vegetables.

The Greenbrier project in White Sulphur Springs is a great example of "The Boxley Way" of doing business. Our team responded in just a matter of weeks and put a plant in Greenbrier County, WV. We are supplying ready mixed concrete to Baker Concrete Construction, who was a customer, a decade ago, on a previous job, the Nautica Distribution facility in Martinsville, VA.
